Here is a saying from an early Christian desert mother, Amma Sarah, who was aware of the depth of her spirituality. She did not need approval of anyone for who she was for the inner journey she had undertaken. Not willing to be diminished by foolish and arrogant men, she gifted them with an appropriate reply.
Amma Sarah said, “If I prayed God that all people should approve of my conduct, I should find myself a penitent at the door of each one, but I shall rather pray that my heart may be pure toward all.”
