Mark describes a scene that highlights the widow's poverty and her small gift. The scribes are flashy and the crowds are wealthy, but this "one poor widow" gives just two tiny coins. While her offering is almost worthless compared to the large donations from the rich, it means something much more in a spiritual sense. Jesus tells his disciples with great seriousness that this widow has given more than anyone else because she gave everything she had, while the rich only gave from their surplus. For Jesus, the value of a gift is not the amount given, but the cost to the giver. She is all in with God.
