Good Neighbor
This is one of Jesus’ more familiar parables. An expert in the law of Moses asks Jesus what he must do to gain eternal life. Jesus says, you already know what the law says about this issue. The legal expert says, “It is written you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus says, “There you have it. Do that and you will obtain it.” Then the legal expert asks, “And who is my neighbor?” Then Jesus tells the parable of the Samaritan who helps a Jewish man who has been beaten and left for dead. In summary, we are to love, respect, and care for everyone.
